Let \(A\) be a \((-1,1)\) algebra over a field of characteristic 0, and for \(a\in A\) a fixed element define a new multiplication on the vector space \(A\) by the formula \(x\cdot_a y=(xa)y\). The algebra obtained is denoted by \(A_a\), and is called a homotope of the algebra \(A\). When \(A\) contains an identity element and \(a\) is an invertible element, then the homotope \(A_a\) is called an isotope of the algebra \(A\). The author shows by example that an isotope of \(A\) need not be a \((-1,1)\) algebra. However, it is proved that a homotope of a \((-1,1)\) algebra with two generators is a \((-1,1)\) algebra. In particular, the variety of \((-1,1)\) algebras generated by the free algebra with two generators is stable with respect to taking homotopes, i.e. any homotope of an algebra in this variety is also in the variety.
