[For part II see ibid. 26, No. 1, 15-78 (1978; Zbl 0713.17014).] A \(k\)-extended affine root system \(R\) is a set of non-isotropic vectors in a real vector space equipped with a semipositive symmetric bilinear form of finite rank such that the dimension of the radical is \(k\), which is a generalization of a root system. In fact, \(R\) is a classical root system if \(k=0\), and an affine root system if \(k=1\). In case of \(k=2\), \(R\) is called an elliptic root system. For each root vector in \(R\) a reflection is defined in the usual way. The group \(W(R)\) generated by the reflections is called an elliptic Weyl group if \(k=2\). The classification of elliptic root systems was obtained by \textit{K. Saito} [part I: ibid. 21, 75-179 (1985; Zbl 0573.17012)]. In the paper under review, the authors give a presentation of the elliptic Weyl group \(W(R)\). It is shown that \(W(R)\) is generated by the involutions corresponding to the vertices of the elliptic Dynkin diagram which satisfy a system of elliptic Coxeter relations and a finiteness condition.
