Let \(X\) be a space. A family \({\mathcal C}\) of subsets of \(X\) is finite on compact subsets of \(X\), briefly, CF in \(X\), if for each compact set \(K\) of \(X\), \(\{C\cap K: C\in{\mathcal C}\}\) is finite. Every hereditarily closure-preserving (briefly, HCP) family is CF. For further properties of CF families, see \textit{T. Mizokami}'s paper [Topology Appl. 35, No. 1, 75-92 (1990; Zbl 0715.54018)]. A cover \({\mathcal P}\) of \(X\) is a \(k\)-network if, for any compact subset \(K\) and any open subset \(U\) with \(K\subset U\), there exists a finite \({\mathcal P}^*\subset{\mathcal P}\) such that \(K\subset\bigcup{\mathcal P}^*\subset U\). A space is a \(k'\)-space whenever if \(x\in\text{cl }A\), there exists a compact set \(K\) with \(x\in\text{cl}(A\cap K)\). For any infinite cardinal \(\alpha\), let \(S_\alpha\) be the space obtained from the topological sum of \(\alpha\) convergent sequences by identifying all the limit points to a single point. This paper gives following characterization by means of some known results on spaces with a \(\sigma\)-HCP \(k\)-network: A regular \(k'\)-space \(X\) is an \(\aleph\)-space (resp. \(g\)-metrizable space) iff \(X\) has a \(\sigma\)-CF \(k\)-network, and \(X\) contains no closed copy \(S_{\omega_1}\) (resp. \(S_\omega\)).
