Let \(W\) be a Coxeter group. \textit{L. Solomon} [J. Algebra 41, 255-268 (1976; Zbl 0355.20007)] introduced the so-called descent algebra, which is a subalgebra of \(\mathbb{Q}[W]\). A revival of interest in this area began in the 1980s when applications were found for an interpretation of the rule for multiplying together basis elements of the descent algebra of the symmetric group. This interpretation is called the ``matrix interpretation''. Until now, there has been little success in developing such an interpretation for the Coxeter groups of type \(D\). In this paper, the authors solve the problem for the remaining Coxeter family.
