The article contains an extension of some previous results of \textit{T. J. Laffey} [Linear Multilinear Algebra 6, 269-305 (1978; Zbl 0399.15008)] for triangularization of semigroups of matrices onto the case of algebraic operators on a Banach space. It is proved that the following sets of operators are triangularizable: (1) a semigroup of algebraic operators on a Banach space if the ranks of all commutators of elements of the semigroup are at most 1, (2) a pair of arbitrary bounded operators under some conditions on their squares' commutators, (3) a semigroup of algebraically unipotent operators of bounded degree. The main work on this paper was done during the Linear Algebra Workshop at Bled, Slovenia, in May 1996.
