Let \(M\) be a smooth, non-compact, complete Riemannian manifold of dimension \(n\), and let \(\Delta_p\) denote the \(p\)-Laplacian operator (\(p>1\)) defined by: \[ \Delta_p f=- \text{div} (|\nabla f|^{p-2}\nabla f) \] \noindent The author is concerned with the problem of giving geometric criteria for the existence and non-existence of a Green function for \(\Delta_p\) on \(M\), for \(1<p\leq n\) (this ''\(p\)-Green function'' has been suitably defined by Holopainen). He does so by extending some results of Ichihara and Kasue, obtained for the Green function of \(\Delta_2\) (the ordinary Laplacian). In particular, when the sectional curvature of \(M\) is suitably bounded above (resp. the Ricci curvature is suitably bounded below) explicit upper bounds (resp. lower bounds) of the p-Green function are given. These bounds depend only on the curvature bounds and the distance from the pole, and imply the desired existence, and non-existence, theorems.
