The author investigates subharmonic motions, either oscillations or rotations, of a pendulum whose support is subjected to a vertical non-harmonic periodic oscillation. The author evaluates the subharmonic Melnikov functions for oscillating and rotating motions of the pendulum perturbed by an elliptic function, and studies the existing connections with homoclinic bifurcations. Such bifurcations were previously analyzed in the author's work [Int. J. Theor. Phys. 35, No. 8, 1745-1752 (1996; Zbl 0858.34040)].
