    The author studies the detailed calculus of invariant differential operators on Grassmann manifolds. The main purpose is to characterize the range of the Radon transforms on higher rank Grassmann manifolds and to construct explicit inversion formulas. The Radon transform \(R^q_p : C^{\infty}(Gr(q,n;{\mathbb F})) \rightarrow C^{\infty}(Gr(p,n;{\mathbb F}))\) is defined as follows: for \(q < p\), \(R^q_pf(\xi)\) is the integral of \(f \in C^{\infty} (Gr(q,n;{\mathbb F}))\) over all \(\gamma \in C^{\infty}(Gr(q,n;{\mathbb F}))\) with \(\gamma \subset \xi\), for \(p < q\), \(R^q_pf(\xi)\) is the integral of \(f\) over all \(\gamma \supset \xi\). (\(Gr(p,n;{\mathbb F}) = \) Grassmann manifold of all \(p\)-dimensional subspaces in \({\mathbb F}^n\), \({\mathbb F} = {\mathbb R} \text{ or } {\mathbb C}\)). The main results: A) If \( s:= \text{rank}Gr(q,n;{\mathbb F}) < \text{rank}Gr(p,n;{\mathbb F})\) then \(\text{Im}R^q_p = \text{Ker}\Phi^{(n,p)}_{s+1}\), where \(\Phi^{(n,p)}_{s+1}\) is a generalized John-type invariant differential operator of order \(2s+2\) on \(Gr(p,n;{\mathbb F})\). B) Explicit inversion formulas for \(R^q_p\), i.e., \(D R^p_q R^q_p = I\), where \(D\) is a differential operator, explicitly given as linear combination of the \(\Phi^{(n,q)}_{k}\), \(k=0,\dots ,s\) (\(p-q =\) even in case \({\mathbb F} = {\mathbb R}\)). Moreover, the article contains a range theorem in the quaternion case and the radial part formula for invariant differential operators on complex Grassmann manifolds.
