    This paper considers the blow-up of solutions of the semilinear parabolic system \[ {\partial u_i\over\partial t}=\Delta u_i+ u^{p_i}_{i+1},\quad i=1,2,\dots, k,\quad u_{k+1}: =u_1,\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N,\;0<t<T, \] where \(p_i>1\) for each \(i\). For \(k=1\) it is known that all positive solutions blow up in finite time for \(p\leq 1+2/N\), while global positive solutions exist otherwise. When \(k=2\), all positive solutions blow-up in finite time if \(\max ({p_1+1\over p_1p_2-1}, {p_2+1\over p_1p_2-1})\geq {1\over 2}N\), otherwise global positive solutions exist. In the case of blow-up at time \(T\) there exists a constant \(C\) for which \[ u_1(x,t)\leq C(T-t)^{-(p_1+1)/(p_1p_2-1)}\quad\text{and} \quad u_2(x,t)\leq C(T-t)^{-(p_2+1)/(p_1p_2-1)}. \] Theorem 2.2 of the paper extends this blow-up rate to general \(k\) as follows: If \((\alpha_1, \alpha_2, \dots, \alpha_k)^T\) satisfies \[ \left(\begin{matrix} 1 & -p_1& 0 & 0 & \cdots & 0 & 0 & 0\\ 0 & 1& -p_2 & 0 & \cdots & 0 & 0 & 0\\ \vdots & \vdots & \vdots &\vdots & \vdots & \vdots & \vdots &\vdots\\ 0 & 0& 0& 0 & \cdots & 0 & 1 & -p_{k-1}\\ -p_k & 0 & 0 & 0 & \vdots & 0 & 0 & 1 \end{matrix}\right) \left(\begin{matrix} \alpha_1 \\ \alpha_2 \\ \vdots \\ \alpha_{k-1} \\ \alpha_k \\ \end{matrix}\right)=-\left(\begin{matrix} 1 \\ 1 \\ \vdots \\ 1 \\ 1 \end{matrix}\right) \] and \(\max(\alpha_1,\alpha_2,\dots,\alpha_k)>{1\over 2}N\), then any solution which blows up in time \(T\) satisfies \(u_i(x,t)\leq C(T-t)^{\alpha_i}\), \(i=1,2, \dots,k\), \((x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^N \times(0,T)\). The proof is based on standard inequalities for parabolic equations.
