An efficient numerical method for far field boundary conditions of the Poisson equation in unbounded domains is presented. In particular, one solves the Poisson equation with a false Dirichlet boundary condition, from which the correct solution can be obtained. The method is independent of the discretization, so that finite difference or finite element schemes could be employed.
