The nonsymmetric shifted Macdonald polynomials (denoted \(G_\alpha (x;q,t)\) in the present work) are nonsymmetric multivariable analogues of the polynomial \(p_k(x)= (x-1)(x-q) \cdots (x-q^{k-1})\). Just as in the one-variable theory \(p_k(q^n)/p_k)\) gives the \(q\)-binomial coefficients, the ratio \(G_\beta (\overline \alpha;q, t)/G_\beta (\overline\beta; q,t)\), where \(\overline \alpha\) is the eigenvalue of the eigenequation satisfied by the \(G_\alpha\), is shown to be a multidimensional nonsymmetric analogue of the \(q\)-binomial coefficient. In particular, an expansion formula is given for the \(G_\alpha\) in terms of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials which has the multidimensional nonsymmetric binomial coefficients as expansion coefficients. The corresponding results in the Jack case \((t=q^r,\;q\to 1)\) are derived making use of similar algebraic properties of the shifted polynomials as used in the Macdonald case.
