The purpose of this article is to extend the method of the proof of Wagschal to solve a generalized Cauchy problem for semilinear systems of equations. In 1979, Wagschal based on ideas of Gevrey, reduced the proof of the Cauchy-Kowalewsky theorem, in the generality introduced by Lednev in 1948 dealing with the spectral radius, to the fixed point theorem on certain Banach algebras. These Banach algebras are defined through the formalism of Cauchy majorant functions in the holomorphic case, and through the formalism of power series in the Gevrey case. The first section presents a historical account of classical results due to Cauchy, Kowalewsky, Goursat, Lednev, Gärding and Persson. The necessary definitions and properties of Wagschal's Banach algebras of functions are recalled in Section 2. The main results are presented in the last section. The generalized Cauchy problem is solved for spaces of holomorphic functions, for spaces of partially holomorphic functions, and for spaces of functions in several Gevrey classes. This last part generalizes results of Pucci, 1955, and Talenti, 1964.
