The paper deals with Lie superalgebras over the field of real numbers. Suppose that \(I\) is a convex set of positive integers with respect to the natural order and \(I_1\) is a subset of \(I\). For any real matrix \(A=(a_{ij})\) where \(i,j\in I\) the author introduces the Lie superalgebra \(\widetilde G\) generated by elements \(e_i,f_i,h_{ij}\) where \(i,j\in I\) with defining relations \[ [e_i,f_j]=h_{ij},\quad [h_{ij},e_k]=\delta_{ij}a_{ik}e_k,\quad [h_{ij},f_k]=-\delta_{ij}a_{ik}f_k, \] where \(\deg e_i=\deg f_i=0\) if \(i\in I\setminus I_1\) and \(\deg e_i=\deg f_i=1\) if \(i\in I_1\). A contragredient Lie superalgebra \(G\) is a superalgebra which is a semidirect product of \(\widetilde G/C\) by an Abelian even Lie superalgebra \(D\) such that \(C\) is a central (even) superalgebra of \(\widetilde G\) and \(e_i,f_j\) are eigenvectors of \(D\). A contragredient Lie superalgebra \(G\) is a generalized Kac-Moody superalgebra (a GKM superalgebra) if the matrix \(A\) is symmetric with non-positive non-diagonal entries and \[ \dfrac{2a_{ij}}{a_{ii}}\in \mathbb Z \text{ if } a_{ii}>0,\quad \dfrac{a_{ij}}{a_{ii}}\in \mathbb Z \text{ if } a_{ii}>0 \text{ and } i\in I_1. \] The main result of the paper states that under some assumptions any Lie superalgebra with a non-degenerate invariant supersymmetric bilinear form is a direct sum of a GKM superalgebra and finite dimensional simple Lie superalgebras \[ A(m,n),B(m,n),C(n), D(m,n), D(2,1;\alpha), F(4), C(3) \] and affine Lie superalgebras with symmetrizable Cartan matrix. It is also shown that with few exceptions a sub-superalgebra of invariants of a GKM superalgebra under an action of a finite automorphism group is again a GKM superalgebra.
