This paper provides a theoretical analysis to the cell-centred method using techniques from finite element theory. The authors show how the finite volume scheme is equivalent to a finite element scheme and a finite difference scheme. Then they demonstrate the stability of the finite difference scheme which indicates stability of the finite volume scheme and the convergence of the finite element method, implying the convergence of the finite volume scheme. Some numerical examples are presented to compare to the theoretical prediction. The model problem considered is the solution of the Poisson equation on the unit square with Dirichlet conditions.
