Let \(K\) be a number field and \(E_1,\;E_2\) be two elliptic curves over \(K\) connected by an isogeny of prime degree \(p>2\). The authors give a description of the image of the representation of the absolute Galois group of \(K\) acting on the \(p\)-torsion of \(E_1\times E_2.\) Under certain technical assumptions this image consists of all pairs of automorphisms on \(E_1[p]\) and \(E_2[p]\) which come from the Galois action and have the same determinant, meaning that the actions of the Galois group on \(E_1[p]\) and \(E_2[p]\) are as independent as possible.
