\textit{A. Silberger} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 79, 263-264 (1979; Zbl 0397.22008)] showed that if \(\varphi:H\to G\) is a central isogeny of reductive \(p\)-adic groups, then any irreducible complex smooth (hence admissible, by a well-known theorem of J. Bernstein) representation of \(G\) restricts via \(\varphi\) to a direct sum of finitely many irreducible smooth representations of \(H\). This paper observes the converse: Any irreducible complex smooth representation of \(H\) occurs as a direct summand of such a restriction, and extends to an admissible representation of a finite index open subgroup of \(G\). The main thrust of this paper is an extension to locally profinite groups. The reviewer could not find a definition of this term (e.g.) in the paper; in contrast, the paper records the well-known definition of an induced representation.
