The paper deals with smooth partially hyperbolic flows generalizing properties of hyperbolic or Anosov flows. A class of partially hyperbolic flows induced by \(\Sigma\)-geodesic flows corresponding to mechanical systems with constraints is constructed. Suitable conditions properly decouple its variational equation and imply the hyperbolic properties of the trajectories. The cases of a general Lie group and of a semisimple Lie group are analyzed.
