The properties of operator functions characterized by its spectral decomposition are discussed. Operator functions were studied by \textit{K. Löwner} [Math. Z. 38, 177-216 (1934; Zbl 0008.11301)] who showed that these monotone operator functions are analytic. This result on monotone matrix functions of arbitrary high order \(n\) was later generalized by \textit{A. Korányi} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 101, 520-554 (1961; Zbl 0111.11501)] to the case of two variables. In this paper the theory of monotone matrix functions is further extended by applying the theory of Fréchet differentiable functions and alternate proofs of previous results and also of the representation theorem of Korányi are given. The presented approach shows all the essential features and can be generalized to any number of variables.
