\(A\)-generators for ideals in the Dickson algebra (Q5936005): Difference between revisions

Let \(n\geq 1\), \(P_n=\mathbb{F}_2 [t_1,\dots,t_n]\) be the polynomial algebra on \(n\) variables of degree one and \(D_n=P_n^{\text{GL}_n (\mathbb{F}_2)}\) the Dickson algebra, i.e. the ring of invariants of the natural action of the general linear group \(\text{GL}_n (\mathbb{F}_2)\) on \(P_n\). It is known that \(D_n\) is a polynomial algebra on classes \(Q_i\), \(0\leq i\leq n\), of degree \(2^n-2^i\), and it is an unstable algebra over the modulo 2 Steenrod algebra \(A\). The aim of this paper is to study the \(A\)-indecomposables and the \(A\)-decomposables of certain ideals of \(D_n\). In particular, it is proved that the ideal generated by \(Q_0^{n-1}\) is contained in \(\overline AD_n\).
