This paper presents some combinatorial results about a formula for quiver varieties given by \textit{A. S. Buch} and \textit{W. Fulton} [\((*)\) Invent. Math. 135, No.~3, 665-687 (1999; Zbl 0942.14027)]. The main result is a proof of the conjecture given in \((*)\) in some special cases. It is also shown that the conjecture follows from a stronger but simpler conjecture, for which substantial computational verification has been obtained. A useful criterion for recognizing factor sequences has also been provided. Another section gives an account of Fomin's involution, which is used in the subsequent section to formulate the stronger conjecture.
