Form the author's presentation: Starting from the Balslev-Gamelin-Fashian differential operation \[ \omega: = \sum^n_{k=0}(a_k+b_k(t))t^kD^k, \quad a\leq t<\infty,\;0<a<\infty,\tag{1} \] where \(b_k(t) \in C^k[a,\infty)\) are complex-valued functions, \(a_k\) are complex numbers, \(a_n\neq 0\), \(1/(a_n+b_n)\), \(b_k \in L^{\infty}(a,\infty)\), \(0 \leq k \leq n\) and \(D:= d/dt\), which can be treated as a perturbation of the differential expression \(\varepsilon :=\sum^n_{k=0}a_kt^kD^k\), one considers properties of the essential spectra of maximal and minimal differential operators generated by (1) in the scale of Lebesgue spaces on the half-line and, by way of application, one obtains exact formulas for computing various essential spectra and the spectrum of ordinary differential operators with polynomial coefficients whose order does not exceed the order of the corresponding derivative. The results generalize similar ones obtained by the author in a lot of other previous papers [see, for example, Dokl. Akad. Nauk Belarusi 38, No. 1, 21--26 (1994; Zbl 0799.34066); Differ. Uravn. 32, No. 8, 1024--1034 (1996; Zbl 0891.34080)].
