In [\textit{J. Dover}, Finite Fields Appl. 4, No. 4, 362-380 (1998; Zbl 0922.51002)] the author develops the theory of subregular spreads in \(PG(2n-1,q)\) for \(n>2\), based on the notion of replacing (André) hyper-reguli [see \textit{T. G. Ostrom}, J. Geom. 48, No. 1-2, 157-166 (1993; Zbl 0792.51001)]. If the mutually disjoint hyper-reguli replaced form a ``linear'' set in a well-defined sense, the resulting translation plane is an André plane. In the above mentioned article the author gave examples of nonlinear sets of mutually disjoint hyper-reguli in a regular spread of \(PG(5,q)\) for odd \(q\), whose replacement produced subregular spreads which were shown not to be André spreads. In the article under review the author constructs such examples for all \(q=2^e>4\). In particular, we now know there exist nonlinear disjoint pairs of hyper-reguli in \(PG(5,q)\) for all \(q>4\), whose replacement produces translation planes which are not André. It would be nice to see such examples in projective dimensions higher than 5.
