    The authors discuss the consistent phenomenological introduction of relaxation terms in the optical Bloch equations and compare numerical tools for their evaluation. Besides a consistent introduction of constant, Markovian relaxation rates, more recent methods like the self-consistent derivation of relaxation terms from a many particle Hamiltonian are not included.
