The author [Invent. Math. 132, No. 2, 307-330 (1998; Zbl 0913.20002)] introduced a certain class \(\mathcal C\) of groups, defined by means of a cohomological condition. These groups have importance for the study of idempotents in group rings. In the present paper, the author establishes the limitation of that class by constructing explicit examples of groups which do not satisfy that cohomological condition. For instance, \(\mathcal C\) is not closed under infinite direct products and there exist finitely generated solvable groups which are not contained in \(\mathcal C\).
