The author proposes an adaptive sliding mode controller solving a nonlinear tracking problem for a class of coupled systems based on fuzzy control techniques. Using Lyapunov function techniques it is shown that the resulting closed loop system is globally stable in the sense that all signals involved are bounded and the tracking error converges to 0. The results are illustrated by two examples.
