The paper represents a detailed and comprehensive account on the Green formula for the elliptic differential matrix operators with covering some related topics. The explicit forms of all the possible variants of the Green formula are discussed for an arbitrary such an operator in case of general boundary conditions. In the case where the operator is elliptic, a representation formula for the solutions is derived via the fundamental solution. A special attention is paid to the boundedness of the layer potentials from the boundary data space (Bessel potentials, Besov spaces, Zygmund spaces) into the corresponding weighted space on the domain. A series of theorems is proved in this direction. A priori estimates of the solutions are obtained in the case when the differential operator is hypoelliptic. The related topics also covered are traces of functions in weighted spaces, Plemelj formulas, Calderón projections and problems of minimal smoothness requirements on the boundary and coefficients.
