To describe the main problem addressed in the paper under review, let \(B(H)\) denote the algebra of bounded linear operators on a complex separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space \(H\). For \(A,B\in B(H)\), define \(\delta_{A,B}\colon B(H)\to B(H)\) by \(\delta_{A,B}(X)=AX-XB\). Also let \({\mathcal C}_p\) be the Schatten \(p\)-class for \(1\leq p<\infty\), and fix two co-prime natural numbers \(m\) and \(n\). Now the problem is to find sufficient conditions on \(m,n,A,B\) to ensure that, if \(\delta_{A^m,B^m}(X),\delta_{A^n,B^n}(X)\in{\mathcal C}_p\), then \(\delta_{A,B}(X)\) in turn belongs to some Schatten class \({\mathcal C}_p\). The paper contains several nice results in this connection. E.g., the author proves that, if both \(A\) and \(B^*\) are subnormal and \(\delta_{A^m,B^m}(X),\delta_{A^n,B^n}(X)\in{\mathcal C}_p\), then there exists a natural number \(t\) such that \(\delta_{A,B}(X)\in{\mathcal C}_{2^{tn}p}\) (Theorem~5). A related fact is that, if either \(1-A^*A\) or \(1-B^*B\) belongs to \({\mathcal C}_p\) and \(\delta_{A^m,B^m}(X),\delta_{A^n,B^n}(X)\in{\mathcal C}_p\), then \(\delta_{A,B}(X)\in{\mathcal C}_p\) (Theorem~8).
