For evolution equations in a Banach space containing a linear operator \(A\) (a generator of an analytic semigroup) and a nonlinear operator \(B\) (which is dominated by \(A\)), the W-Euler discretization is considered (a generalization of Rosenbrock methods for stiff ordinary differential equations). By comparing with the backward Euler method, stability is proved. This result carries over to general W-methods. As an application of the theory, error bounds for nonsmooth initial data are derived. The author also explains how to estimate the error (for large \(t\)) of solutions near an asymptotically stable hyperbolic equilibrium.
