For each finite group \(G\), let \(F_2(G)\) be the largest normal soluble subgroup of \(G\) with Fitting height (i.e. nilpotent length) at most two. Further, let \({\mathcal F}_2(G)=\{x\in G:x\in F_2(\langle x,g\rangle)\) for all \(g\in G\}\). The main result of the present paper is: \({\mathcal F}_2(G)=F_2(G)\) (Theorem A). The author [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 29, No. 2, 177-183 (1997; Zbl 0879.20009)] has conjectured that \(\{x\in G:\langle x,g\rangle\) is soluble for all \(g\in G\}\) coincides with the soluble radical of \(G\).
