The author answers a question raised by \textit{M. Gromov} [in Geometric group theory, Volume 2: Asymptotic invariants of infinite groups. (London Mathematical Society Lecture Note Series 182, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge) (1993; Zbl 0841.20039)]. She constructs an example of a word metric on an infinite subgroup showing that sub-exponential distortion does not obstruct non-trivial growth of connected radii [Theorem 1]. It is also shown that the asymptotic cone of the constructed metric depends on the choice of ultra-filter and scaling sequence.
