For a compact Lie group \(G\), the author studies the stable splitting of the \(p\)-completion \(BG^\wedge_p\) of the classifying space \(BG\) as a wedge sum of indecomposable spectra. He extends results of \textit{C. N. Lee} [Math. Z. 226, 25-50 (1997; Zbl 0883.22009)] and of \textit{J. Martino} and \textit{S. Priddy} [Topology 38, 1-21 (1999; Zbl 0926.55008)] by including the case \(p=2\), where \(G\) is not automatically \(p\)-Roquette. Given a \(p\)-toral subgroup \(H\), he gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a summand originating in \(BH^\wedge_p\) to be a summand of \(BG^\wedge_p\); in fact, he constructs a certain matrix whose rank is the multiplicity of this summand. He uses his own results from [Topology Appl. 87, 189-197 (1998; Zbl 0929.55013)], where he gave an explicit description of the induced self-maps on \(\mathbb{F}_p\)-homology for a \(p\)-toral compact Lie group (extension of a torus by a finite \(p\)-group) without assuming the \(p\)-Roquette condition.
