The author presents a new approach to shape preserving approximation based on the real interpolation of Banach cones. The basic problem is a Peetre-Sparr type theorem related to interpolation cones to approximation spaces with cone restrictions. Possibilities of this approach were demonstrated in the case of the cone of nonnegative functions in the couples of Sobolev and Besov spaces.
