Let \((M,d)\) be a complete metric space and \(T: M \rightarrow M\) be an asymptotic contraction in the sense that \[ d(T^n(x),T^n(y)) \leq \phi_n(d(x,y)) \] for all \(x,y \in M\), where \(\phi_n: [0,\infty) \rightarrow [0,\infty)\) are continuous functions uniformly converging on the range of \(d\) to a continuous function \(\phi\) such that \(\phi (s) < s\) for all \(s > 0\). It is assumed also that some orbit of \(T\) is bounded. Then \(T\) has a unique fixed point being a limit of every sequence of successive approximations.
