Many sets of standard mathematical objects offer natural examples of analytic non-Borel or co-analytic non-Borel sets. A comprehensive survey of such examples can be found in [\textit{H. Becker}, Math. Sci. Res. Inst. Publ. 26, 1-25 (1992; Zbl 0786.04001)]. In the present paper the author finds many classes of continua that are co-analytic hard or co-analytic complete. The results generally concern families of continua that do not contain a given continuum (or types of continua).
