A sliding mode approach for solving convex optimization problems is proposed. It is based on using linear time-invariant control systems and implies motion separation by rates: fast motion to attain the stabilization of the system dynamics with the desired convergence rate; slow motion to search for the optimal point. The sliding mode is enforced by virtue of a suitable designed static observer, so that the constrained optimization problem is transformed into an unconstrained one. Two simulation examples are also presented.
