The paper deals with Bernoulli bond percolation on the square lattice at supercritical density conditioned to have a large circuit surrounding the origin and enclosing an area at least \(l^2\), for large \(l\). If \(\Gamma_0\) denotes the outermost such circuit, it is of interest to consider the average local roughness ALT(\(\Gamma_0\)), which is the area between the interior of \(\Gamma_0\) and its convex hull boundary divided by the length of the convex hull boundary, and the maximal local roughness MLR(\(\Gamma_0\)) which is the maximum inward deviation of \(\Gamma_0\) from the boundary of its convex hull. The main result states that this maximum is at least of order \(l^{1/3}(\log l)^{-2/3}\). An analogy with the wrapped Brownian bridge suggests that MLR(\(\Gamma_0\)) and ALR(\(\Gamma_0\)) should be of order \(l^{1/3}\).
