The authors consider the geometry of doubly extended Lie groups provided with their natural biinvariant metric. Then they describe the curvature, holonomy, and the space of parallel spinors, for all simply connected groups having a biinvariant metric of Lorentzian signature \((1,n -1)\), of signature \((2, n-2)\), and of signature \((p,q)\) where \(p+q\leq 6\). Contents include: an introduction; Lie groups with biinvariant metric; spin holonomy of double extensions; double extensions by simple Lie groups; double extensions by 1-dimensional Lie groups; indecomposable simply connected Lie groups with biivariant Lorentz metrics; indecomposable simply connected Lie groups with biivariant metrics of signature \((2, n- 2)\); indecomposable simply connected Lie groups of dimension \(\leq 6\); solvable Lie groups with a maximal isotropic centre.
