The authors prove that the reflection equation algebra (RE algebra) associated to a finite dimensional representation of a quasitriangular Hopf algebra \(H\) is twist-equivalent to the corresponding FRT algebra. It is also shown that the reflection equation algebra is a module algebra of the twisted tensor square of \(H\) and of the Drinfeld double of \(H\). FRT-type and RE-type algebras are defined and applied to equivariant quantisation on Lie groups and matrix algebras.
