Suppose \(D\) is a bounded domain in \({\mathbb C}^n\) with \(C^\infty\) boundary, and \(f\) is a function holomorphic on \(D\) and \(C^\infty\) on \(\bar D\). One wants to construct a distribution \(X\) such that \(fX=1\), as explicitly as possible. Here this is done satisfactorily, without using resolution of singularities (and thus without losing effective control of the process). If \(D\) is strongly pseudoconvex then \(g\) is in the ideal \(I_f(D)\) generated by \(f\) if and only if \(g\overline\partial X=0\), and one obtains formulae analogous to those of \textit{M. Passare} [Math. Scand. 62, No. 1, 75-152 (1988; Zbl 0633.32005)]. Analogous results are obtained for higher codimension, that is on \(Y=\{z\in D\mid f_1(z)=\cdots=f_p(z)=0\}\).
