Multiplicity of positive solutions for \(p\)-Laplace equation with superlinear-type nonlinearity. (Q1426715): Difference between revisions

The authors investigate the problem \(-\Delta_p u=u^\alpha+u^q\), \(u>0\) in \(B_R(0)\), \(u=0\) on \(\partial B_R(0)\) where \(\Delta_p\) is the \(p\)-Laplacian, \(B_R(0)\) is the ball in \(\mathbb R^N\), \(N\geq 3\), with radius \(R\) centered at the origin. The main result is the following: Let \(2<p<N\), \(p-1<q<p^2/(N-p)-1\), \(\alpha=p^*-1\), \(p^*=Np/(N-p)\). Then there exists \(R_*>0\) depending on \(p,q,N\) such that this problem admits at least two solutions for \(R>R_*\) and no solutions for \(0<R<R_*\). The authors extend previous results by \textit{F. V. Atkinson} and \textit{L. A. Peletier} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 10, 755--776 (1986; Zbl 0662.34024)].
