    Let \(\mathcal{H}\) be the class of harmonic univalent functions \(f(z)\) defined in the open unit disk of the complex plane and normalized by \(f(0)=0\) and \(f_z(0)=1\). Let \(\mathcal{S}_H\) be the subclass of \(\mathcal{H}\) consisting of sense-preserving mappings. Let \(\mathcal{S}^*_H\), \(\mathcal{K}_H\) and \(\mathcal{C}_H\) denote the subclasses of \(\mathcal{S}_H\) consisting of starlike, convex and close-to-convex functions respectively. By making use of a result of \textit{J. Clunie} and \textit{T. Sheil-Small} [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn., Ser. A I 9, 3--25 (1984; Zbl 0506.30007)] on functions in \(\mathcal{C}_H\), the authors have proved that the function \((\phi+\varepsilon \overline{\phi})*(h+\overline{g})\) is in \(\mathcal{C}_H\) for a convex analytic function \(\phi\) under certain condition on \(\varepsilon\), \(h\) and \(g\). Convolution conditions for a function in \(\mathcal{S}_H\) to belong to \(\mathcal{S}^*_H\) and \(\mathcal{K}_H\) are obtained; these results extend the corresponding results for the analytic case proved by \textit{H. Silverman}, \textit{E. M. Silvia} and \textit{D. Telage} [Math. Z. 162, 125--130 (1978; Zbl 0369.30004)]. Using these convolution conditions, coefficient conditions are obtained for a function to belong to \(\mathcal{S}^*_H\) and \(\mathcal{K}_H\).
