The notion of a Yetter-Drinfeld module over a group coalgebra \(H\) (the group is denoted by \(\pi\)) is introduced as a module \(V\) over a component \(H_\alpha\) of \(H\) endowed with a family of linear maps \(\Delta_\beta\colon V\to V\otimes H_\beta\) (for any \(\beta\in\pi\)) satisfying axioms that generalize the usual definition of a Yetter-Drinfeld module. If \(H\) is of finite type, it is proved that the category of Yetter-Drinfeld modules is isomorphic, as braided crossed category, to the center of the category of representations of \(H\), as well as to the category of representations of the quantum double of \(H\). The last part of the paper is devoted to the study of the ribbon case.
