Let \(K\) be a field and \(G\) be a group. Suppose that one of the following conditions is satisfied: a) \(G\) is a locally finite group; b) the group algebra \(KG\) is semilocal and \(G\) is either a solvable group or a linear group. Then the authors prove that the following conditions are equivalent: 1) the \(n\times n\) matrix ring \(M_n(KG)\) for \(n>1\) is a right CS-ring; 2) \(M_2(KG)\) is a right CS-ring; 3) \(KG\) is right selfinjective; 4) \(G\) is a finite group. Recall that the ring \(R\) is a CS-ring if every right ideal of \(R\) is essential in a right ideal which is a direct summand of \(R\). The above theorem generalizes a result of the authors [J. Algebra 264, No. 1, 251-261 (2003; Zbl 1029.16017)] for group algebras of solvable groups.
