For convolution operators acting on spaces of ultradistributions of Beurling type on open sets, the authors characterize the surjectivity of the operator (modulo ultrasmooth functions) in terms of a convexity condition for singular supports in the spirit of Hörmander's convexity conditions (Theorem A). The proof of this theorem is based on the systematic use of structural properties of (LF) spaces. In this respect, see \textit{J. Wengenroth} [Derived Functors in Functional Analysis (Lecture Notes in Math. 1810, Springer, Berlin) (2003; Zbl 1031.46001)]. Theorem A is then used to complete previous work by \textit{J. Bonet, R. Meise} and the reviewer [Stud. Math. 126, 171--198 (1997; Zbl 0918.46039)] and also by \textit{M. Langenbruch} [RACSAM, Rev. R. Acad. Cienc. Exactas Fís. Nat., Ser. A Mat. 97, 287--304 (2003; Zbl 1079.46018)]. As an example, we mention that the authors show that the convolution equation is always solvable for a smooth right-hand side (with smooth solution) if any test function and any real analytic function has an ultradistributional solution.
