Several Schur complements can be built for \(3\times 3\) block matrices, and two new identities between them are derived. They are applied to matrix extrapolation of the form introduced and studied by C. Brezinski in several papers. It is a pleasure to see a paper from 1917 cited (that was written by I. Schur).
