Let \(\mathcal F\) be a holomorphic foliation on a complex projective surface \(X\). The Poincaré metric of each leaf of \(\mathcal F\) can be seen as a (singular) Hermitian metric on the canonical bundle of \(\mathcal F\). In his paper [\textit{M. Brunella}, Invent. Math. 152, 119--148 (2003; Zbl 1029.32014)] the author proved that if there exists at least one hyperbolic leaf then the curvature \(\Omega\) of this Hermitian metric is a closed positive current. One can decompose \(\Omega=\Omega_{\text{alg}}+\Omega_{\text{res}}\) where \(\Omega_{\text{alg}}\) is a finite positive sum of integration currents over algebraic curves and \(\Omega_{\text{res}}\) is a closed positive current with vanishing Lelong number outside a finite set. The main result of this paper is the following. Suppose that \(X\) has at most cyclic quotient singularities and that \(\mathcal F\) has only reduced singularities disjoint from the singularities of \(X\) and that the canonical bundle of \(\mathcal F\) is nef. If \(\mathcal F\) has at least one hyperbolic leaf then \(\Omega_{\text{alg}}\) coincides with the singular part of the Lebesgue decomposition of \(\Omega\) into singular and absolutely continuous parts. As a consequence, if \(\mathcal F\) is of general type then \(\Omega\) is absolutely continuous. Thus one can define the (pointwise) wedge product \(\Omega\wedge \Omega\) and show that \(\int_X \Omega\wedge \Omega>0\).
