Let \(L/K\) be a Galois extension of number fields and let \(A\) be an abelian variety defined over \(K.\) By Poincaré's complete reducibility theorem, the restriction of scalars \(Re_{L/K}(A)\) is \(K\)-isogenous to a product of powers of \(K\)-simple abelian varieties \(B_{i}\) which are not \(K\)-isogenous to each other. Assume now that \(\text{ End}^{0}_{K}(A) :=\;\text{ End}_{K}(A) {\displaystyle\mathop\otimes_{\mathbb Z}} {\mathbb Q}\) is a field and that \(\text{ End}^{0}_{L}(A) = \;\text{ End}^{0}_{K}(A).\) These restrictive hypotheses allow the author to use the theory of representations of finite groups over fields to establish a precise relationship between the factors \(B_{i}\) and the irreducible characters of \(\text{ Gal}\, (L/K).\) He also derives some equivalences between the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer's conjectures relative to restrictions of \(A\) to subextensions of \(L/K.\)
