The authors describe a minimal high-dimensional hyperchaotic Lotka-Volterra model in the sense of being the algebraically simplest such system. The system is mathematically interesting because it can produce such a wide range of dynamical behaviour including equilibria, invariant loops, limit cycles, 2-tori, 3-tori, and strange attractors with well-defined bifurcation points and linear frequencies. It is suitabe for studying temporal transients, routes to chaos, dimensionality scaling, synchronization, structural stability, and robustness.
