It is the goal of this paper to characterize, in \(\mathbb R^3\) with the Minkowski metric \(dx_1^2+dx_2^2-dx_3^2\), all complete embedded maximal surfaces with finitely many singularities. (If one does not allow for singularities, it is known that there are no other solutions than space-like planes.) The authors show that any such surface is an entire maximal graph with cone-like singularities over some space-like plane. To investigate the set of solutions, they consider the space \(S_n\) of entire maximal graphs over the \(x_1\)-\(x_2-\)plane with \((n+1)\) singular points and vertical limit normal vector at infinity. This is a \((3n+4)\)-dimensional manifold. Switching to marked graphs (i.e., to graphs with an ordering of the singularities) gives an \((n+1)\)-sheeted covering of \(S_n\) that is denoted by \(M_n\). Among other things, it is shown that, if one identifies graphs in \(M_n\) that differ by translations, rotations about a vertical axis, homotheties or symmetries about a horizontal plane, one gets a quotient space that can be identified with a spinorial bundle.
