Let \(\mathbb{C}_p\) be the completion of the algebraic closure of \(\mathbb{Q}_p\), and let \(f\) be a polynomial over \(\mathbb{C}_p\). If \(f\) has a repulsive periodic point, then it is known that the Julia set of \(f\) is non-empty, and the question has been posed whether the converse holds. The author gives for that a sufficient condition, which in particular holds if every zero of \(f\) lies in its Fatou set, the degree of \(f\) is not divisible by \(p\), and at least one zero of \(f\) lies in the attraction basin of the point at infinity.
